Facebook Is A Huge Waste of Time for Internet Marketers

October 4, 2007 by Big Jason

Facebook is indeed a huge waste of time if you get sucked into all the stupid, time-wasting applications available there. People should be making fortunes on Facebook instead.

A time suck in Mark Joyner’s Simpleology 101 is an understatement to say the least.

I have people continually poking me, throwing sheep at me, buying me virtual drinks, inviting me to become a vampire or a werewolf.  When does it end?

Facebook actually has some really cool features to drive traffic to your site, products or services.

My friend, Mari Smith, is actually kicking some serious ass in her business using Facebook.

She is now offering a free online class called Facebook Fortunes.

It starts pretty soon, so register for free now .

I guess I'm doing something right because Mari is interviewing me for Facebook Fortunes.

see you there,
big jason

Consider Facebook a marketing fiasco unless:

1. You have a virtual assistant/intern handle it for you.
2. You recognize that the primary virtue of it is being indexed in the search engines as another way to drive traffic to you.

YEMV.

Hey Jason - thanks heaps for the plug. You da man!!

I’ve found there are two types of marketers in the world: numbers-based marketers and heart-based marketers.

The numbers-based person just cares about size of lists, conversion rates, traffic, sales, dollar amounts. The heart-based person focuses on real people with real needs, genuinely cares, and strives to build a lasting relationship with the client.

I believe if you focus on the heart-based aspect, Facebook is an *incredible* tool for busines!

Just my two cents for today.

P.S. - I just posted instructions for how to drastically reduce all the inane notifications and requests… :)

I think Seth Godin says it very well in this video - “Seth is asked if there is a social network that is good for marketers to help them do their jobs. He says: ‘Far and away it is having a blog. It’s tempting, if you’re a salesperson to go to Linked In…’” (Facebook is included as a social network like Linked In in this case).

great video. seth talks about certain cases in regards to facebook but not as a whole. Facebook has much more to offer then what Seth talked about, and this why Mari is having this free class to use it in the right way and not what seth talked about.

I completely disagree with you.

There can be no denying that face book is making an impact and that too in a big way. This is mainly because of the vast reach that it has and many more people trying to cash in on this.

I haves used facebook quite well to my advantage many times and it has yielded positive results almost all the time.
