Heather Vale Internet Marketing Unwrapped Server Blows Up!
January 20, 2007 by Big Jason
That’s right! Another internet marketer’s server goes down. And this time it was after Heather Vale of Internet Marketing Unwrapped interviewed Derek Gehl of The Internet Marketing Center and Desktop Marketer fame. I have seen this time and time again. People always recommend the cheapest hosting around and pay for it big time just like this instance.
Why wait till you get tons of traffic to move to a more reliable host with better support. I would go with someone like Hostasaurus, Wolfpaw, or WebNet. These all offer the Miva Merchant shopping cart but offer phenomenal web hosting support in general and would be there in a pinch.

Hey there,
Actually it had nothing to do with too much traffic… my former host shut me down because of a false spam complaint from a subscriber who forgot they signed up — and since my autoresponder doesn’t log the time, date and IP address of the request AND confirmation (in fact they don’t log the time at all and only a small percentage of the IPs showed up), then the host made their inconvenient decision.
I’m pretty sure they knew I was telling the truth but they had to stick by their strict TOS… so with my new host I made sure that the policy was innocent until proven guilty instead of guilty until proven innocent.
This is info I shared with my friends and not my entire list, but I did want to set the record straight when I saw your take on it posted here.
And luckily Derek had set up a link on his site instead of my usual practice of doing a redirect from mine — and as a result we didn’t lose any customers.
Thanks for your concern though!
Heather
Hey Heather,
Well, I’m glad to hear that it wasn’t a server meltdown like some others have experienced.
In regards to your autoresponder, I hope you are considering switching as well. Proof of subscription is extremely important. One thing that I have seen lately and really like is adding the ip address, date, and email used to subscribe in the footer of all mailings.
